IntroductionThis assignment is the beginning of our unit that will teach you all about resumes and job interviews. However, before you can apply for a job, you should know what kind of jobs are available, what interests you, and what skills are required for a job you might like to have.

Task: To prepare a 2-5 minute presentation about the job you have researched to include the skills required for that job and how to go about gaining those skills.

Process:

In a Word document on your Chromebooks, list the following information by using the websites provided below. You may use other websites if you prefer, but they must be relevant. College or vocational school websites would be good examples. This document should be submitted electronically prior to the date you are scheduled to give your presentation.

1. List some skills you think you have already that would be useful in a job.
2. What kind of job are you qualified for now?
3. What kind of skills do not require job experience?
4. What are your interests or hobbies?
5. What do you think you would like to do for a living after high school?
6. Do you want to go to college?
7. If not college, would you attend vocational trade training, join the military, seek employment immediately after graduation, or have any ideas for starting a business?
8. If you could pick any job that you think you might like, what would it be? Why?
9. What will you need to do to gain the qualifications for the job you want?
10. What is the income level of the jobs that you are interested in?

Evaluation:

Your score will be comprised of two parts that are worth 50 possible points each.

Part 1 will be your typed up document answering the process questions in complete, well written sentences that should be free from spelling and grammatical errors. You will also be scored based on the effort put into these questions.

Part 2 will be on your oral presentation to the class. You will be scored on your time of a minimum of 2 minutes, but no more than 5 minutes. You will also be scored on presentation value, such as your knowledge of your topic and how well you explain what you have learned. You should be well prepared and will be allowed to use notecards written on index cards.

Conclusion: You should have learned from this webquest what kind of jobs you could qualify for now, what kind of job options are available to choose from after high school, and what is needed to qualify for those jobs. You will also know if your hobbies and current interests could translate into a career, and the income level of the fields you are interested in. This assignment will prepare you for our unit about writing resumes and developing interview skills which align with MS CCSS in Writing, Language, Speaking and Listening.
